General Information

For students enrolled in Mr. Grindle's math classes

Norwich University Requirements:

"Students will achieve an understanding of mathematical and quantitative reasoning and its place in today's world. They should understand how to construct mathematical models as a means of formulating problems and be able to apply appropriate logical, quantitative, and technological methods to solve problems. All students must complete two mathematics courses, exclusive of MA 005 (Preparatory Mathematics) and MA 103 (College Algebra)." Page 5 NU Catalog

"MA 005 must be finished by the end of the first year if it is required. One hundred level Math courses must be finished by the end of the second year." Page 8 NU Catalog

Important dates:

Attendance: Students sign an attendance sheet for every class they attend. Students whose total absences, excused or unexcused, equals or exceeds 15% of the class meetings may be assigned a grade of F and dropped from the class roster.

Excused absences may be allowed for illness, emergency or planned activities beyond the student's control. Use common sense and courtesy to keep the instructor informed of your absence from class.

Class will begin and end promptly at the scheduled times.

Academic Achievement Center (AAC): 4th Floor of Kreitzberg in Suite 408, Phone: 802 485 2130. I collaborate with the AAC and students to provide appropriate accommodations in my classes.

Peer tutors will be available during Fall & Spring semesters in the evenings 7-10 p.m. in the Math Science Bldg U128, except on Fridays and Saturdays, every week.

Calculator: Students must bring a scientific calculator (such as a TI-30XA ~$15), a notebook and the text book to all classes including quizzes and exams. Do not use the calculator in your cell phone. Do not share calculators during exams.

Computer Access to Norwich University's online course management system, NUoodle is granted to all students enrolled in this class. Student grades, changes to assignments and supplemental documents will be posted regularly by the instructor.

Professionalism: I expect professionalism from each and every student. Act as if you were hired to take this class. Attend all classes, be on time, do the work with integrity and treat everyone with respect.

Attire: Cadets wear the uniform of the day. Civilians wear proper business attire.

Distractions: Sleeping, listening to music, reading the newspaper, using laptops and cell phones, eating a meal, speaking out of turn and side conversations are prohibited.

Grading Policy: Your grade will be determined by your performance on in-class activities, homework assignments, quizzes, hour exams, final exam & attendance. You must keep a simple portfolio of all work you do in this class.

Portfolio: Keep each completed assignment in an organized folder (or binder) with a simple table of contents. You may include class notes and other class documents in the folder or you may keep them separately but you must be able to locate all assignments quickly and easily upon request.

Make-up work will only be allowed for excused absences. All make-up work for any reason other than illness or emergency must be scheduled PRIOR to the date of absence.
