Once upon a time in a land not too far away (Maine) I earned a BA and an MS in Physics from the University of Maine. For more than 20 years after that, I worked in the Semiconductor Industry. That industry provides all the hardware that makes modern global interconnected information technology possible. Now I teach students to effectively utilize mathematics.

I worked as an industrial engineer or scientist for four different companies in four different states on both coasts of the United States. I had many jobs which included researching solar photo voltaic cells, developing products which measured UV irradiance or measured thin transparent films.

I've applied statistical process control to manufacturing processes for UV curing equipment, Atomic Force Microscopes and defect detection instruments. I negotiated equipment specifications and designed experiments to measure compliance to specification.

Currently I teach mathematics at Norwich University. Previously I taught mathematics at Castleton State College, Champlain College and two secondary schools in Vermont.

In May 2008, I earned a Professional Certificate in Web Development and Management from Champlain College (link to my web site).

My impression is that the Education community is currently undergoing a similar evolution that the world of commerce has been through. I remember serious arguments 20 years ago about whether employees should have personal computers at their workplace or whether email was a legitimate way to communicate with customers. I believe new interactive educational formats should exploit web sites, cell phones and portable media players to engage the natural curiosity of students.

I want to be part of the IT evolution in education.
