Updated: Thu 7/22/10 9:07 PM Information — Meets & Events

A typical swim meet includes the following swim events in the following order.

Medley Relay » Butterfly » Backstroke » Breaststroke » Freestyle » Free Relay

logo swimmerA dual swim meet starts at 6:00 pm and usually last 2.5 to 3 hours. Swimmers are expected to be at the meet site at 4:45 (home meets) 5:00 (away meets). All swimmers should stay until the end of the meet to cheer the other TEST swimmers on regardless of when their own individual events have finished.

Families should bring something to the snack bar at the home meets. If your last name begins with A-K, donate food on Tuesday meets. Last names that begin with L-Z donate food on Thursday meets. Use the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the pool lobby to inform coordinators what you intend to bring.

Exhibition events may occasionally be added to a meet to allow swimmers to compete in an event not usually included in a dual meet for the purpose of obtaining an individual time for example, individual medley, or a 200 or 500 yd. event.

Summer Invitational Meets: During the summer there may be invitational meets sponsored by swim teams throughout Vermont. Invitational meets provide an opportunity for swimmers to get qualifying times in the longer events that are not part of a regular dual meet. Such events include 200 and 500 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke, 100 yard butterfly, 100 yard breast stroke, 100 yard freestyle and the 100 or 200 yard individual medley. Information about these meets will be posted on the bulletin board in the pool lobby.

The 2010 League Meet includes all the teams in the Champlain Valley Swim League competing against each other in one swim meet. This meet is held at the end of July at the end of the Champlain Valley Swim League Season. The 2010 League Meet will be held at Middlebury on Friday and Saturday, July 30-31. The 2010 State Swim Meet (VSA) will be held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center on Saturday and Sunday, August 7-8, 2010. Information will be posted as it is received; usually well before the 2010 State Meet. I have left the information below so new swimmers and families can see general information about the State Meet. 2010 qualifying times for this meet are posted. Plan on being available for the swim meet the entire weekend.

Swimmers may swim on one or both days depending on the individual events they may have qualified in.  Swimmers are limited to four individual events or four individual and two relays not one relay.  The State Swim Meet schedule will be available at the pool for individual swimmers to check their own events schedules the week before the meet. Check the bulletin for more information.

Swimmers attending the meet are responsible for arriving on time and being ready for their own events. Swimmers travel to and from the meet on their own and make any overnight arrangements individually if necessary.
